I bought a new exhaust manifold for 232 I6 engine in 1974 CJ5 as old one cracked in several places.

It currently has inlet and exhaust gaskets to the head and one small one mating both manifolds. The seller told me that the inlet does require a gasket but the exhasut doesn't as it should be allowed to move against the head face when heating up to stop cracking. Does this sound right?

You need the intake manifold gasket and the square gasket between the two manifolds.

Don't use the exhaust manifold gasket unless your head surface or manifold surface is uneven. The factory did not use an exhaust manifold gasket. Use a steel gasket between the pipe and the manifold.

Better to have the new exhaust manifold surfaced, if it's not perfectly flat.
