I finally found a correct side mount tire bracket for my 78 but it doesn't have the marker light installed in it. Does anybody know if this light assembly is still available, or if someone has one on their Jeep could they take a picture of it or get the numbers off of the light for me?

The round light is not available AFAIK.

This is all I have that shows one:

Here the original assembly has been mounted on the fender, in the hole that the harness passes through when you have the side-mounted spare.

For my current CJ-6, I mounted one of the rectangular lights in the fender, and will move the spare up to a carrier or into the bed.

Thanks for the picture Tim. I really like the side mounted spare though and want to keep it. I have the part number from the 1974 parts list and diagram but I couldn't find anything when I searched for it. Do you remember if the light was made by Grote or Signal-Stat or another manufacturer or if it was a Jeep specific part?

Sorry, no. The original was the same type of light as the rectangular side marker lights, low profile with a white plastic housing that sticks out the back to hold the rubber bulb socket. It uses the same type of rubber socket too. The rubber socket is available aftermarket.

You can probably find a reflector that size and shape, and graft a bulb holder from one of the rectangular lights onto it. Or find a red disk taillight lens and glue a bulb holder onto the back of it.

Petersen makes a 2" diameter red round clearance light that would be a functional equivalent, but it does not look like the original.

Thanks Tim. I figured there was probably some type of aftermarket equivalent that would look similar. I don't think once the tire's mounted you would really be able to tell it's not original. I have a local farm supply store that carries a large selection of Peterson lights. Hopefully they'll have one that will work.
