I'm replacing my clutch cable the old one would jump up and down when I would push it in and out also making a loud knocking noise at it hit my muffler and thus melt the clutch cable jacket. I would like to avoid this for obvious reasons is there a trick or bracket or any ideas to stop this?

On my '71 there is a clamp (from the factory) that holds the cable securely to the hat channel just behind the drivers side door opening. Keeps it from dropping onto the muffler. Any proper sized clamp and a sheetmetal screw should work. HTH!!
