I get the Dumb-*** award for this one.... R)

Tore the body off the 1963 cj5 I am restoring, and never payed attention to where there vacuum hose came off from that runs the heater and vacuum wipers.

I checked all the obvious spots like the carburetor, but couldnt see where it goes. Even on my parts jeeps I have I looked real quick and didnt locate it. Its the 4cyl with the oil air cleaner.

    Thanks for the assist!

The only other place to pull vacuum on an f-head is the PCV system. My bet is you'll find a TEE under the carb on the intake manifold. PCV goes from the valve cover under the exhaust manifold, around the front of the block, and into a fitting in the intake below the carb. I've seen some that pull vac off that fitting to operate the heater controls also. Fuel pump is the standard place to pull vac though. Check to see if the fitting got broken off the pump.

yeah , unfortunatly I cant post pictures on this board, but I am certain there is no fitting on the fuel pump. I re-built the pump earlier this winter and would have noticed it.

I think I know where you are talking about though; about half-way down the block on the carburator side there is a brass fitting that on one end there is a threaded hole(maybe thats where it goes) and on the other side there is a tube that goes down around and goes into the engine right behind the fuel pump...?

The fuel pumps with the vacuum pump on the bottom for the wipers are about twice as expensive as the pumps without it. Many times the cheaper pump is used as a replacement.

On my Jeep there is a tee fitting in the manifold under the carb. The back side of the tube goes to the heater controls. This hose passes thru the firewall behind the engine near the speedometer cable. The wiper hose goes from the front of the tee around the front of the engine to the fuel pump (steel line). There is a rubber hose that then goes from the fuel pump along the inner fender into the firewall thru a hole near the parking brake cable, then thru a hole in the left side of the dash, and up the side of the windshield frame to the wiper motors

My '60 came without the heater. Never had one. That is one of the options you really don't need in Aridzona. I am just southeast of Furnace...

The vacuum line for those without the heater comes from a T on the side of the block just above the fuel pump. The down side of the T is supposed to go to the bottom of the fuel pump and then to a hole high on the drivers side of the firewall, another hole in the dash, and then to the hard line for the vacuum wiper motors. If you don't have the double pump it just goes straight to the hole in the firewall. The two arms of the T go to the pcv valve that is on the drivers side of the block and the hardline that runs around the front of the block to the port that is in the base of the carb and has vacuum alll the time.

Vacuum wipers don't work real well with out the pump, but they do work.wtlw
