I tore apart my Carter BBD carb a few days ago, and after letting it soak, I went to put it back together tonight. I have torn two other BBDs apart for buddies, and cleaned them, several times.

I just got looking at diagrams, and noticed that the big ball that comes with the rebuild kit is supposed to go into the bottom of the accelerator pump area.

I have never noticed this ball before. I have always noticed (and replaced) the little ball that goes in under the venturi cluster, but have never seen this larger ball.

SOoo... my question is... should I put this ball back? Could it be that all the carbs I have done was taken apart before me and lost the ball, or is it that some carbs never had them in it from the start?

Do I need this ball? because I havent put it back in the other couple BBDs I have replaced :shh:

Looking for some input here..... IDK if I should put this ball back if it wasnt there in the first pl

I'm pretty sure that it has to be in there. It acts as a check valve so when you activate the accelerator pump it doesn't pump the gas back into the float bowl instead of out the pump nozzle.

There has to be a ball under the accel pump or the fuel will be pushed back into the float bowl. Granted some fuel will be pushed into the venturi circuit but not the full thrust. As to the size of the ball not sure on the carter. The Rochester 2g series uses the small ball under the accel pump and the bigger ball in the venturi circuit.
