Since my last post, the shop has ordered and installed another clutch kit with the same results (it slipped). However, apparently the clutch that they removed, which I asume was the original was a three finger clutch, and the two kits that they installed and kept slipping were both diaphragm clutch kits. The shop called me this afternoon, and advised that they had my original three finger clutch rebuilt, and they re-installed it. They claim that the clutch does not slip anymore. I'll pick it up tomorrow and find out.

I just checked the service manual, and it in fact it indicates that early model V6s took the GM single plate dry disc, diaphagm, 1600 lb clutch, but late models took the Borg and Beck single plate, dry disc, coil spring type (9), 1765 lb clutch.

For future reference does anyone know where to buy a new Borg and Beck 3 finger clutch for the dauntless? All I have been able to locate on line are the diaphragm clutches.

I have used Dial a Clutch or Rock auto for a '68 Jeep with the 225 on many builds (Mostly LUK) - including the motor I have a 310# torque with never a 'slip' issue. I always match the Pplate and Clutch to keep them in synch - all have been diaphram type.

I currently have a Borg-Warner super brute diaphragm clutch in the '59-5. Not sure it's still a available. It is easy to operate and have no issues with it locking up. Very drive able in traffic as well.
I've also had good luck with Luk clutches over the years. At work we probably install 5-10 a year and have seldom had an issue.

Sounds like the shop is receiving/installing substandard parts

I have the Jeep back home. The rebuilt 3 finger clutch seems to be working fine. I hope this is the last time I have clutch issues. The input that I received here was great. I learned a lot. Thanks to all.
