Turn Signal wired backwards ('69 CJ-5)

  1. I took apart my turn signal today because it was so loose that it barely worked. I found two screws that were out and quickly fixed it, but when I did, I noticed a little rubber wheel on the bottom side that faced the steering column. It was quickly evident that the signal housing was upside-down, since that wheel obviously sits against the steering wheel to return it to neutral after the turn is made.

    I flipped it upside-down to notice that the side previously on the bottom had a really cool logo on it, and all the screws holding the housing together were now on the bottom and out of site. Long story short, I'm positive it's now in the right position.

    Problem is...the turn signal now works opposite of the way it should. I took the switch back apart to see if I could swap out some terminals, but they're all soldered onto the switch inside the housing, and this is some pretty small hardware. Any idea how to fix this? My signal works fine, but it doesn't return back to neutral. This I can ignore, but it looks terrible.

    Yep-- you have to swap the wires where the T-sig wires connect into the main wiring loom. Do you have the bakalite plug-in to swap your wires?

    Jeep used a bakelite (plastic) molded coupler to join wires from the main harness to the device. If you don't have one you will see where someone has connected the wires from the signal switch to the harness. That's where you need to swap the wires around.
