Rebuilding Dauntless Oil Pump

So after some diagnosis, the oil pump in my replacement engine is pretty weak, so I ordered up a pump kit from Summit, and I'm going to install it tomorrow.

Now the pump kit comes with an assortment of springs for the Pressure Regulator, and while I don't have the kit here with me at the moment, they're listed roughly as 20PSI, 40 PSI, and 60 PSI

I'm thinking I'm wanting to use the 20PSI spring, but I don't honestly know where a stock dauntless ought to be running, as far as Oil Pressure goes....

    Any ideas?

I always ran the 40PSI spring.

To help confuse things, the official Jeep Universal service manual, published 1965, lists 33 psi as the "normal" oil pressure at 2400 rpm.

use the 40 spring and don't forget to pack pump with petroleum jelly / vaseline

Sounds good. I noticed while im in there, that the lower radiator hose is hard up against the oil filter, is that normal?

It's close to the radiator hose on mine, but not quite touching.

The SM 1002-R-5 (1965) has no information concerning the Dauntless 225.
The first Dauntless reference book ever published is the W-1103 Suppliment to the 1965 USM (72 pages) December 1965

Make sure you inspect the pump cover for any wear where the gears turn. If there is wear, you can lap the cover with some fine/very fine grit sandpaper and a piece of glass. I used a figure 8 pattern when lapping to make it as even as possible.

    The setup I used

I hate to disagree oldtime. My bible for the past 34 years has been Service Manual #SM-1046, published by:
"1965 kaiser jeep corporation now jeep corporation"

The Dauntless is covered by this manual, section D1 is devoted to it.

I would scan in the title page for you, but I don't have a working scanner.

So the question I am having now, I have a 66 225 v-6, the engine has about 70,000 miles on her. should I replace the oil pump in the engine while I am rebuilding the body and frame and transmission/transfer case.

I just have not pulled the engine yet. but I am going to soon as well as update the leaf springs and bushing and a few other things. I don't know why I havn't done it so far.

What level of oil pressure will the engine hold now?
