I'm getting pretty close to pulling the trigger on a new softop for the CJ. It will be black, no discussion needed there but I don't think I've ever actually seen a black denim top. Does anybody here have one? Are there any advantages/disadvantages to going with the denim vs. vinyl?

I'mm thinking about going the black denim Supertop route. I had a Tigertop on the flatty and I was never really happy with the fit.

If going with a custom cover you may want to consider a synthetic boat cover/sail cloth material- no problems with shrinkage/stretch due to temperature or humidity.

My experience with bestops demin seat covers were tgat they hold dirt and are hard to clean. I like the shiny black vinyl better. Actually, the demin is vinyl too. Its a rough vinyl

the denim, i think, is more like the current tops on the wranglers...

isnt the vinyl like the tops USED to be on the CJs?... SO many naugas gave their hides to make those, i thought it was outlawed

My Brother has/ had the black denim. It's a real pain in the *** to keep clean, especially if you ever get mud on it. If it were me, I'd go smooth vinyl for sure.

Impossible to clean the rough vinyl top. If you are planning to ever drive in the rain they look really bad fast.

Thanks for the input fellas. Looks like a new vinyl top is in my future!

FWIW I have a set of those Bestop seat covers, and while they are pretty water resistant, they always look dirty. I didnt realize that was the same material. :(
