Like a dummy, I threw out the old plugs that came out of my 231 before the rebuild. I'm trying to get the last few items together to start the engine after the rebuild and I can't figure out what plugs to use. Everything listed for the engine model year is for HEI and I'm still running a point dist. I also bought wires for the engine model year and they are for an HEI as well(Ford style dist. cap). Does anybody have a part number for a set of wires for a point dist. in a 231 or a Ford style cap for the dist.?

    Anybody have any recommendations?

    Thanks.

Should be able to use 225 plugs iirc. Car 231 applications from '75- up had HEI so I'm guessing you have an oddfire 231 someone used a 225 distributor in.

Are you using the stock coil or a hotter one like a mallory or flame-thrower etc. These hotter coils can handle the 8mm wires and still give you good spark even with the higher carbon resistive wires. Your narrower plug gap .035" with AC44S plugs should be good.

The 231 is a 1978 even fire. The dist. cap has the adjustment window and adjustable when running points, so I assume it is a GM unit(there are no markings on the dist.). Would the 225 have that dist.? Will the AC44S plugs fit the even fire application?

I guess a set of 225 wires will do fine. I was running an old standard coil, but I do have an big yellow Accel coil laying around. Maybe I'll run that and some fat wires for a little color contrast under the hood ;)...

    Thanks for the help fellas.

Hmm. Maybe a marine application? No car even fire 231 used a points distributor. They were all HEI. 225 are oddfire and an evenfire won't run right with an oddfire distributor. Maybe order parts for a marine engine.

Maybe I'll go scout the junkyard for an HEI.
