Does anyone make a "canvas" top for a 1974 CJ5? The reason I ask is that I want to "paint" the top to match the camo pattern on the rest of the jeep. I don't think I can do that with a "vinyl" top.

If not...have you thought about painting the denim top? Bestop carries both varieties.

If the top is like their seat covers, the "denim" is still vinyl I believe, just with a denim texture that makes the material hard to clean. It may hold paint better than slick vinyl.

I have the "denim" seats and they are still vinyl and hard to keep clean. You might look for a vinyl specific paint, a marine store might have some.

Wasnt there a company called "New Life Canvas" making them also? Might check that out.

Canvas will shrink if it gets damp & drys out- it's cotton just like a pair of jeans.

Most boats these days come with tops made out of synthetic sail cloth material- no shrinkage, wear & UV resistant. not sure how well paint would stick but probably better than it would to canvas.
