Hi you all ,1st post here ... Bought a 1971 cj5 with factory T-18 and V-6.. The cross member has tons on holes in it . The snubber doesn't line up with the cross member like on a flatty . It is offset by about an inch to 1/2 inch. Is this right???..Does anyone have pictures of there's they wiuldn't mind posting.. I have searched the data base here and didn't find what I was looking for. Thanks in advance..Gord

    Welcome to ECJ5 Gord! :tea:

    My old '71 came with a T14. I swapped in a WR T-18 in the mid 90s.
Best pic I have is after I rebuilt and reinstalled the tcase.

I know that the torque arm/bushing didn't line up for me. I know I made it work, but can't really recall if I just drilled another hole in the xmember, or if I had to add a short piece of steel to align with the mount.

    Welcome to ECJ5 Gord.

If you did not know, there were very few of these V6 Jeeps with T-18s built, and only in 1971. The T-18 inline 6 Jeeps from 1972 through 1975 may have the same mount and cross member, and there are a few members here with those. The intermediate forum would be the place to ask about that.

Do you have the brackets 18.215-1, 18.190- and 18.190-5?

28.197-1 is pretty generic, and 18.197-5 is just a stud.

Sorry, I didn't see arrows .I have the 28.197-1 rubber mount and 18.215-1 bracket. I do not have the 18.190-** bracket parts (spicer 20 snubber???). Of course the Spicer 18 has the "ear" on the lower part of the case for mounting the Rubber snubber and bolt..

I swapped in a T-18 into my 1970 that was one of the few from a 1971 with the v-6. My 70 originally had the 3 speed. Had to use the 4 speed crossmember, and had to drill new mounting holes in the frame to mount it. Also had to lengthen the front driveshaft and shorten the rear. Other than that, it worked great (mated to the 225 and the D18 xfer case perfectly. I'll try to get some pics uploaded later tonight.

Here you go. I used some stock tubing for a spacer to lower the cross brace (for now). You can see the surface rust where the 3 speed crossmember was mounted in the 5th picture. Eyeballing a tape measure, we mounted the 4-speed crossmember about 4.5" back (measuring from the 3-speed bolt hole to the 4-speed bolt hole). Let me know if you need another angle.
