Hideous noise, I think transfer case

    Funny, Howard.

Thanks, foreman, I'm getting the kinks worked out slowly but surely. The problem has mostly been the weather--not much opportunity to drive it since I got it road legal.

The only reason I was thinking transfer case is because it was the last component in the equation that, once neutralized, made the problem go away. Plus it is the only drive line component that I did not 100% rebuild. Not to mention that I am naturally programmed to think worst-case scenario, it's part of my job. But if it is merely a clutch issue then I can address it.

Thanks again everyone for your help.

after re-reading this all again, I'll second mikes's diag. Get the clutch adjusted correctly to give it a little more pressure when you press in the clutch. It should not be moving while you push the clutch in and trans in gear. Sounds like there's not enough clearance between the clutch disk and flywheel.

In the past I have experienced new clutches (friction plates) that could not be so adjusted - until the "fuzz" wore off them, they dragged a little. This was my conjecture in my earlier post.

I think that is my problem because I have adjusted it every which way from Sunday and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'll just let it wear some more. Now that I know the noise and vibration isn't anything horrible, I can deal with it.
