D25 Powerlok

I recently put in the D25 axle with powerlok. One day I drove it on the highway with just the front hubs locked. I can now see why it could be difficult on a slippery road. I have not noticed anything different off road while in 4 wheel drive.

I read in the forums that the torque on a powerlok should be a minimum of 40 ft lbs. What is too tight? At 120 ft lbs my torque wrench adapter started to slip. By rocking the torque wrench I could get the wheel to move. I would guess the torque on this powerlok would be 120 - 140 ft lbs.

Is that ok or is it too tight for the granite slabs on the Rubicon?

That's a good thing. You want it nice and tight for rocks (better traction). The 40 lbs is a minimum. Someone may have modified the clutch pack to make it tighter or the clutches may be new and not yet worn.

I was concerned because I have heard of people breaking axles on the granite faces by having the clutch packs too tight.
