Can you identify this engine?

Can anyone identify this engine? I can tell it is a GM V6 and I am hoping that it is a 225. I would like the drivers side exhaust if it is.

Spot on Twin2! I googled Buick 198 V6, sure as heck looks just like it.

Would any of the parts fit the 225?

Do the ol' tape measure thing! Measure yours between bolts and compare.

I had one of those! A lot of parts will swap to the 225.

Might be a 231. Looks like a HEI distributor, thought hat could have been put in by someone, later. Is there an EGR valve at the rear of the intake manifold? Best thing is to get the casting number off the rear of the block.

That sure ain't no HEI on there :D. Could be a 198 or a 225, Buick started using them 1964'ish. The only way to know 100% is by the casting number. Either way the exhaust manifolds will work.

If the bellhousing is round then a 198. Looking at the pics from what I can see it looks like a car 225. The ribs in the bellhousing are an indicator. Are the two top bolt holes of the bellhousing high up and about 5-6" or so apart and not concentric with the other bolt holes? If so then 225.

I didn't remember the rotor in the dist. being that size or shape on the 225 but, it's been a while since I looked at any of mine.

That's a standard Delco points type distributor (the kind with the window in the cap to set the points)
Some 225's came with a Prestolite distributor, which is smaller & looks totally different.

This appears to be a 1964 or 1965 Buick 225 Fireball engine.
The worst thing is perhaps the 1 barrel intake manifold.
The 1 barrel tends to choke the 225 down.
Besides the Rochester 1 barrel (BC) carburetor has a very poor reputation.
Also the 225 Fireball will not have the 48 pound flywheel.

The biggest plus is the left rear exhaust dump.

I'd like to have that exhaust crossover pipe.

    You mean 1V Ken?

I meant the single barrel Rochester BC
As far as I know Buick still called this 225 version the Fireball.

This engine belonged to a old guy that lived alone, in a small town and collected old tractors, a few jeep items and a lot of scrap metal. He really had no family close by, and passed away in his trailer. It was weeks before one of his renters came by to pay the rent, and noticed the fly's and smell.

He also had a few jeep wagoneers, and trucks. One that has the buick 350. I'm also interested in it as well. But we'll see. None of them run and have been outside for many years unused. If you want pictures let me know. Kind of interesting to look at.

I think it is his sister that is having an auction here in the near future.
