New motor mounts painted and put on

    Getting closer

Flywheel machined, ready to go on

I learned the hard way to get it to bare metal at all the ground points

I decided wisely to call it a day and get some help for tomorrow

Well my friends did not share my enthusiasm on putting a jeep motor in today so i was on my own, and I dont wait well. I hooked a ratchet strap from the motor to the hoist to get it straight to the trans, got it started on the shaft but just couldn't get things lined up by myself so I got 2 more straps one on each side of motor to the crossmember behind the transfer case. I got some tension on it then jacked the back wheels off the ground and spun the tires a bit, the engine fell right into place !!!!!!whew

The hardest part was getting the pass side motor mount bolt in

My wife did not agree to my proposal to put it in the living room as a display pc so I move on

It looks like you got a fair amount done today by yourself. I think of all the times I've put a motor back in, only once did have any help. (327 in a '62 chevy truck) My mother used to come out to the garage about 02:00 and chase me back to the house to wash up and go to bed. Actually, I like working by myself. Nobody to get in my way, hide the tools and give poor advice.

I have 5 of them. Only 4 are complete. 2 are Buick. Only 1 runs. Its in my jeep right now. The rest are either stuck and one has low enough compression to turn by hand with the plugs in. Parts is parts though.

I built my Fhead 20 years ago in my living room. My wife would have liked yours a lot more than mine.

A friend of a friend keeps his Norton in his living room. I don't know how many carbs and heaters etc. I have rebuilt on my kitchen table. Yeah, no wife. A neighbor used to keep his Harley in the house.

Found my gas pedal in the corner of my basement, so I blasted it and gave her a paint job.

On the back of the alternator you have two wires on that small stud. From the picture it looks like that stud has a lower nut and a grip (?) washer mounted directly to the red diode plate. Is that what I am seeing or is there an insulator between the red plate and the washer?

You said you had a re-builder go through it? He may not have put the insulators back on. They are easy to forget or miss. If it work then it works. Guess we will see.

On mine those three wires you show running across the exhaust manifold go to left (looking fwd) of the alt, down between oil pump and block, then back to solenoid or regulator as required, via a wire holder on the motor mount. When I rewired I added additional holders to keep the wires clear of tha manifold.

Those are the voltage regulator wires, they're just hanging there out of the way for now. The starter wires are the ones that should be on the motor mount, correct ?

    Walt,
I sent this out to get restored and it wasn't cheap so it better work. I dont remember seeing insulators on it before but i wasn't looking. If you look at the photo of it sitting on the bench (after being restored) there are washer looking things behind the red plate. Are they insulators? Not sure what they look like

Correct, mine has a clip that holds the wires, so they don't get too close to the manifold.

Mine also has the VR mounted on the fender well. So the VR wires were in that same bundle, split out from the motor mount then run up the fender well to the VR. I've seen some folks remount the VR on the firewall.

    Regards,
    Tim
