Some headway on the 67, slow and steady!

Another coat of Eastwood Epoxy went down. I really like their products and how they behave. My project is starting to look like a Jeep again, lol.

 

I spent 4 hours today spraying rust treatment and Simple Green underneath the tub, axles, and suspension. Then I hit it a high pressure sprayer (Repeated 5-6 times). Its making a dent but its not as fast as I'd like. I hit a few spots with a wire brush but some things I can't reach. mehh

 

Need help choosing a color, I have it narrowed down to two: (Neither example could be found on an actual Jeep)

The sample blue looks different than the one in the sample picture, but I snagged images from different sources. Both are semi flat colors. Understand the sample colors always look different from when they are sprayed on actual vehicles.

Which one do you folks thing I should go with? I like them both . . .

I agree that the first pic would look best. I think the color would be more timeless than the blue, and would fit the classic Jeep better.

No, KhemPhatz Champagne Metallic, Low Gloss Single Stage.

The other is Hot Rod Flaz Dayton Blue.

 

Typically I wet sand the epoxy primer with 800 grit before applying the color. Are you using single base or base coat then clear. ? Also like the first color, lots of blue jeeps out there. Don't see many of the other color

 

Most likely single base so if it gets scratched I can touch it up without all the rigamonoe.

Not trying to critique your job , What type of sheet metal are you using?...........almost looks like a galvanized or plated metal when I see that shadow of dust or smoke beyond your weld.......that probably should have been ground clean?or is your welder on reverse polarity?, I would guess your using some type of fluxed wire?.............good welds start with the right prep...........just trying to understand what your doing and help.

 

I think you are right, the welding wire is flux core. No shielding gas bottle in sight.

 

Grinder, bondo, putty, paint, they'll be beautiful. To paraphrase an old painter's saying, a little putty and a little paint will make a (carpenter) welder what he ain't!

 

Its just regular old 18 gauge steel, using a flux core welder with no shielding gas. Maybe I should have ground cleaned the surface? I didn't clean them up before taking the picture. I'm going to hand them off to my neighbor to lay down a nice bead using his Miller Mig w/ shielding gas. His welds are much prettier (and stronger) than mine with my 115V rattle box.

 

What are you doing with the original fenders ??

 

Painting them and keeping them for resale purposes

 

When I made my trailer fenders I made my tack welds on the underside of the sheetmetal. It's tough laying a bead that long on a piece of sheetmetal without burning the edge.
