Not sure if this would work for you but here is a picture of a drag link that I modified by adding additional threads and then cutting off the excess rod length that I didn't need for my CJ3B.
Perhaps the length is close to what you need??

Another option for piecing together a set of tie rods/drag links on old Jeep is that a lot of other vehicles in that era also used 11/16-18 TRE's. I used a 60 Rambler end on one configuration. That TRE is straight and maybe 8" overall length. However, I have no idea what the current availability would be.

I have a factory made tie rod that fits a narrow CJ Dana 25 and the double hole knuckle modification.
It's roughly 2" shorter than the standard narrow track Dana 30 tie rod.

I'll try and remember to get you the measurement...

My factory made Dana 25/27 tie rod for use with double knuckle is 38-1/4" OAL.
Compare that to the standard narrow track Dana 30 tie rod length which is 40-1/2" OAL.

I recently had a couple of the 35-1/2" tie rods but sold them both.
They fit Dana 25/27 having single tie rod with single hole steering knuckles.

Hi, I'm interested in doing the one-tie rod conversion on my 62 CJ5. I am almost done rebuilding my Ross and my bellcrank. I don't want to go to saginaw for now but I want to beef-up as much as possible the steering. Does anyone have a parts list that would eliminate a lot of guessing? I have (somewhat decent) welding and (slightly better:D) machining capabilities, so I can cut, tap, weld and scrape my knuckles as required. I like the DOM thick walled tube with lock nuts but I am open to options. Thanks!

tripilio, I have done the single tie rod conversion on both my cj3b, and my cj6 with good results. Both had a tendency to shake at approx. the same speed, 30-35 mph. Had no problem at slower
or faster speeds. I found 2 hole rt knuckles here on the forum. Speedway Motors can for sure help with the tie rod and drag link to fit your jeep. There is a way to do it without the 2 hole knuckle. Maybe someone else will chime in with more info. I for sure recommend the 1 pc setup.

Also, I run a D30 but Herm cut my rods to length. For saginaw, watch your pitman length and front diff cover. Mine is very close but doesn’t touch.

I just measured my 1 piece tie rod on my '64 Tux w/Dana27 and it is 35 1/2" long as Tim replied in post#24 above. I used one of the original short tie rods to link to a Saginaw steering box, so you will have to see how to connect to the bellcrank. Your center tie rod end with the added center connection is moved to the right steering knuckle to make the short tie rod attach (provided you don't have the 2 hole knuckle).
    Hope this helps!

When you say "right steering knuckle" are you talking about driver's or passenger's side?

Thanks, jeepstar! People often tend to reverse the orientation in cars. The right way to refer to something in a car it is not from the comfort of the driver's seat, but rather from the sweating, working position of standing in front of the jeep jeep facing it. :bananatool:

    Hummm....
"The right and left sides of an automobile or the engine are determined facing forward from rear of car or as from the point of view of being seated inside the car, facing the front (ie, from the driver's seat). Passenger side = Right side (We drive on the Right side of the road."
