Define "cold." :D The fact we have rain on bare ground, instead of chin-deep snow, suggests unusual warmth to me. The damn crocuses were actually blooming at Christmas.

Fun and productive day! Living in the “rust belt”, I’ve never seen an unrestored Jeep tub in a condition like this. I finally got to see what body mounts at the floor riser look like. This Jeep is worthy of the attention!

I did go home with a homework assignment or two. More on that later…

Raw and rainy. I didn't notice until we were done, we had so much fun. Nice to be toasty next to the wood stove.

Years ago, I did this without a tractor. This is by far the preferred method.

Just some eye candy from yesterday's adventures....
Lot's of cleaning up to do.
Will drop the transfer and tranny. Not today, I'm sore.
Mud daubers all over this thing. Look at top of muffler.
A bit more dismantling I think today. These parts in in great shape.
Shaun helped me put a bunch of jeep parts up in the hay loft. I think that's the main reason I'm sore today.
After these pics, we rolled the chassis back into the barn.
And that was pretty much it!

Even the bumperettes aren't dented. That frame looks very straight and not rusty. If they sit still for any length of time the mud dabbers ger in there.

Taking off the bumperetts kicked my ***. 71 years of crust and rust.

    But it's done
    [IMG]
    Onto other things.

More spoils of war, but I need a better blasting cabinet.

Hard effort for good parts. Spacers are there.

Stimsonite which I believe is original, but this the only reflector that came with this lot.

Those bumperette and pintle hook bolts get all the crud kicked up on them from the tires.
Never seen them come off without a fight. I have been known to Put the impact on tighten and snap them off in extreme situations because they are so hard to get off. Did that on an old parts M38A1 that was so rusted out.

Pintle was easy, bumperettes were a pain. 1/2 impact even struggled. I boogered just one of the nuts because two of them are tucked up right against rivets and you can't get a 16 point inside. I'll reassemble with anti-seize for sure! I have some epsom salts in my near future.

I have heard that Phillips Milk of Magnesia can work for anti-seize in a pinch.
I have a big can of anti-seize left over from working on heavy equipment.

Ha! I meant epsom salts for my aching body! But I'll try that. What a hoot!

Maybe go around that thing with a can of Kroil for the remaining bolts...

Don’t know if I missed it, but are you going to sand blast then powder coat the frame?

Pete sent me home with an almost new tiger top for my Jeep. He also sent me home with an A1 carburetor with rebuild kit, as well as, a vented windshield frame with seals. Still working on literature for the carb.

This is how it came home.

There are a couple dents to take care of on the inside.

Spent some time today heating the lollipops and soaking with penetrant.

    Success!

Next step will be to start the disassembly. My sweetheart wife will work on getting some replacement glass from work. This vented windshield is very nice, and worthy of this M38A1 project!

Thank you Pete for the barter! While I was too tired yesterday afternoon to express my gratitude, I am very excited to have a top on the 5!

I'm doing the VW on my 3B right now. Look forward to seeing more of it. I'm trying to get the glass this week also.
