Marine stores have GL-4 for outboard motor lower ends. I found it by accident while working on outboard motors.

Amazon doesn't carry StaLub any more apparently, but the industrial supply places do.

Always going to find exceptions---ARB's have copper and brass tubes/fittings.

Well, if you're spending the money for ARB lockers, I'd suspect you'd read the documentation, and know that putting GL5 in them would be a bad idea.

I also use the "Traveler" brand GL-1 oil from Tractor Supply Co as mentioned earlier in this thread. I use it in my Jeeps, and it is what I used in the old Ford tractor I had. I know several of the GL-4 oils are safe for yellow metal too, but GL-1 is what was recommended in the manual, so that is what I use, and what I have used for more than 50 years.

I am getting ready to tear down a T90 in which I found a lot of yellow glitter in the oil I drained out of it. The blocking rings on the synchronizer look good on first glance, but it will be interesting to look at the bushings that were more thoroughly submerged in the stuff.

I emailed CRC (makers of Sta Lube)-

Are you still producing 85W90 Sta Lube GL4 gear oil, part numbers Sta-Lube SL24239 or Sta-Lube SL24229? None of the on-line retailers I usually use seem to have any. Thanks

    Their response-

    Good morning Doug,

Thank you for choosing CRC Products. Yes we are still planning to make this, but unfortunately, we have been OOS for sometime now, and I do not have an ETA as to when we will have more.

To throw another wrench in the works, most overdrives don't shift well at all with synthetic oil. Almost everything has had gl5 in it for decades now. Pretty sure if it really mattered, we would all know it.

I use the Penngrade from Amazon. No issues so far and the price is pretty good if you buy 6 or 12 quarts.

    Red Line (50304) MT-90 75W-90 GL-4 Manual Transmission and Transaxle Lubricant (MTL) - 1 Quart. https://a.co/d/5xOi4S8

I used this in the AX-15 transmission on my TJ which has non-ferrous components. It came highly recommended by the TJ crowd. It seems to shift great except second gear it a little notchy when it's cold. Not sure how a T14 would like it.

Admit that I am not that great on the search page, but for some reason I could not get anything to come up when I searched.

The bottle I looked at said it was for GL_4 and GL-5 but not for anything that synchronized. Any other words anything with yellow metal :(

Going to Billings Mt. tomorrow and there is a Big R there that I will check out.

Checked theirs out and in small print it said not good for yellow metal.

The area NAPA distribution center in Billings show they have this so I am going to check them our tomorrow.

Our local Farmers Co-Op guy said he could get me some real GL-4, 70-80wt but had to by a case of it, 12 qt bottles. Case was $128  My son has a 1974 Ford F150 that needs some also so might have to go that route if I can not fine any if Billings tomorrow.

THANKS GUYS FOR ALL THE REPLY'S (y)

Just bought a 2 gal jug of the "Traveler" 90 wt GL-1 from Tractor Supply Company this evening. It was about $40. GL-1 works fine in these old gear boxes, and I just don't understand why so many want GL-4. Maybe there is an advantage to the additives in GL-4, but I don't see the need for it.

I've been using this in my Jeeps. Everybody shifts good including the Warn overdrive.

You could be very correct, I admit I am no expert on the subject. But as hard as it is to find parts anymore and sense at my age I don't really want to have to drop the transmission and transfer case to rebuilt them, I wanted to spend the time trying to find the correct oil to be on the safe side. (y)

Found a 2 gal. jug of Harvest King SAE 90, GL-4 for $29.99 at the Shiptons Big R in Billings Mt. today. Shiptons for those that do not know is a small chain of stores like Tractor Supply in our neck of woods.
Thought the price was great and now relieved that I can fill my transmission and transfer case get her back on the road.:clap::clap::clap::clap:

Thank you Pete. That is informative. This thread is important, for me, considering that I can't attest to what is actually in any of my jeeps. After visiting 3 FLAPS with no luck on finding GL4, and since I have my 3B drained at the moment, I ordered up the Penngrade from Summit. ($7.99/qt).
