OK so I do have a 225. I found the block number and it matches the 225 numbers. It was covered up by a lot of grease.

Engine number is, not the casting number. See the V6 casting number page for a photo of where to find them.

Yes that is the right book. There is alot of info in the book that will aid in a decent rebuild of the engine. The other thing is to take lots of photos and get a small spiral notepad and take notes as you disassemble the engine, especially of things like the rod location/orientation, location and orientation of the main bearings, how the oil holesand grooves in the bearings line up with the oil holes in the block and such, how the rocker arm shafts and such were located and where they were.
When rebuilding an engine clean your work space better than your wife cleans here kitchen. This is one time when being anal will pay off. When done working on the engine each day put the whole assembly in a large garbage bag and seal it tight. There are also a few things on the rebuild that aren't worth you messing with and pay someone to do it, things like cleaning the block and heads and pressing in the cam bearings, come to mind!

Good luck and welcome to the board from Alabama.

    First off, Welcome aboard Adam!

I run a t90 3spd with NO OD and run it 60 mph @ 3500 RPM with a chevy 350. If you have the OD already, you are waaaay ahead of the game.

Nice looking JEEP you have there ;)

Thanks for the great welcome guys I've already learned a couple things about my new Jeep. I didn't know what a bell housing was last night now I do. Hopefully if everything goes alright I'll be starting the rebuild in the next week or two. Should I order the rebuild kit from kanter.com or is there a better place to get it.

This is the kit I used from Autozone on mine last summer:
    #BU225MK01, it was $356, made by HI-TEC.
Remember you will need to measure your motor to find out if there are any oversized
parts and what size pistons to ask for. Order the kit after the motor has been disassembled and take your new piston to the guy thats gonna rebore the block if you have it rebored.

The only way I can get that part to come up on their website is if I change my vehicle from a 62 to a 71. This will work on my 225? It also doesn't list what parts come in the kit. Do you what other parts I will need to get. Thanks for the link.

In 1962 that engine wasn't available in a Jeep. they were factory from 1966-1971. as far as the kit, the master kit comes with cam, lifters, freeze plugs, timing gears and chain, oil pump rebuild kit, pistons, rings, (main, rod and cam bearings) full gasket set and seals, plastigage for checking bearing clearance and assembly lube. With the exception of more assembly lube, engine paint and some moe freeze plugs (the kit had some wrong ones in it) it will rebuild you engine back to factory.

I used a Mellings hi-volume oil pump kit from Autozone and Edelbrock roller timig chain set in place of the factory parts that were in the kit, my block was bored .030 over, tanked, freeze plugs and cam bearings installed and my heads resurfaced and magnafluxed with a 3 angle valve job by a local auto machine shop, I had new valves and valve springs installed along with seals and hardened exhaust valve seats (for unleaded fuel) and ported and polished my heads. All assembly work and the porting and polishing was done by me.

If your motor is trully a 225 this kit will work, but disassemble and measure the motor and make sure before ordering the kit, you don't want the kit until the motor is disassembled anyway.

Thanks my engine is a transplant from a later CJ. Just wanted to make sure it would work on mine. Do you know how to find a good shop to do my machining. What should I look for when talking to different shops. I don't want to give it to the wrong shop and have problems later. Are there some questions I can ask to see if they know what they are doing.
