    6. 215 with 198 alternator bracket. mounts to the timing cover with 2 bolts just as it does on the 198, but the 3rd mounting location does not work, as the 215 does not have threaded holes in the head.

    7. 215 with 198 alternator bracket. another shot showing the 3rd mounting location.

    8. 215 with 198 alternator bracket. This pic is a top view with the alternator mounted to the backet, showing how the 198 alt bracket when used on a 215, mounts the alternator pulley too far out, thus out of alignment with the waterpump and crank pulley. I tried explaining this in an earlier thread. not the best pic, but you get the idea.

In regards to the pictures you posted of your setup, the water pump on your motor exits down and to the side, where as mine exits only to the side. with either alt bracket, your waterpump outlet would interfere. your waterpump design looks like it would work best with an alternator mounted above the waterpump outlet - which gm never offered, only rover did.

As for the threaded holes in your passenger head, i checked it against the 3 buick 215's and the 1 olds 215 that I have, and none of mine have any holes in the front of the passenger head. I am still suspicious of the origin of the head you have. i still think its a rover head, but i am not an authority on this. you may want to check with the guys at http://www.aluminumv8.com/ to verify what head you have.

and i also checked the olds pushrods against the buick pushrods. the olds rods are longer by about a quarter inch. i dont know if the differnce is made up in the lifters, but like i said, the olds version uses a different rocker setup than the buick. Also, the olds has 18 head bolts per head, and the buick has 14 head bolts per head.

Thanks. I appreciate the pics and the info. I'll have to check on the heads. i was told they were olds heads, but never really verified that myself. Guess i'll have to do some checking.
Don't know about the water pump. I took it right off the old 198 I had. That was one thing I was wondering about if they had another pump that was supposed to be on there with a different outlet.

Guess this will give me a few more questions to figure out...

both my 198 and 215 waterpumps appear to be the same design. both are obviously different than the pump you have. maybe the pump you have is off a 225, as a 198 is often confused for a 225. maybe the previous owner put a 225 pump on it? just a thought. i have no idea what a 225 pump looks like, but that may be one?

let me know when you figure out what heads you have. if it is indeed a buick block, you can't use olds heads on it anyway. but you can use buick heads on an olds block. i'm thinking maybe you have a rover motor with rover heads????

keep me posted. i'm interested to know.
