i am planning on building my own cage (will be my first time bending tube)... can it be done with an arc welder or does it really need to be MIG'd?

    any tips?

You can use an arc welder, but unless you're VERY proficient with it it's probably going to look pretty bad. I've seen a few done that way and they just don't look too good.

You could build it and use your arc welder to tack it all together, then take it somewhere you can MIG the final welds.

    M-Tech Supply NE-5 (since renamed I guess): http://mtechsupply.com/view_page.php3?getcategory=Benders&prodid=184

    Don't bother with the degree ring. I've got a 1-3/4 180-degree 5.5-inch CLR die, a 1.5 180-degree 4.5-inch CLR, and a 1-inch 180-degree 3-inch CLR die. I've used them all, but the 1-3/4 gets the most use. I'd like a 1-1/4 inch die, but I can't justify it since I don't use that tubing too often.

All of my cages are 1-3/4 DOM. I'll use 1.5-inch DOM for dash bars, seat mounts, and certain other areas. 1-inch is for smaller stuff like gauge mounts, grab handles, fairlead mounts, etc.

    Mine is Pro-Tools 2" pipe 6" rad - 1" square 3" rad (I think). And it's MIG welded, don't need TIG.

That was my first cage with the bender... First project with it.
