I have a bone stock 63 running LT235 r15 tires with a Ross Steering set-up. I would like to upsize tires to 31-10.50 sometime.

I have the standard hurricane engine and do not plan to change it until the hurricane dies.

Are there any easier steering options availible? My ross setup is pretty tight. This issue is not related sloppy handling, but an issue of effort required to turn the wheel when stopped, slow speed or in 4wd.

Basically I am getting older and lazier and I would like to get the jeep where my wife could\would drive it.

My brother runs 33x10.50 Swampers with his F-head Ross, and it's not too bad.... I know the :v6: box is bigger, but I assume the ratio is the same....

Swap out the steering box for a Ross box from one of the below...

V-6 cj (but ONLY if it was a v-6 from the factory
    M38A1 jeep
    Any Tuxedo park jeep

Extremely low cost steering upgrade-- will bolt right in, but be sure to get pittman arm with the steering box.

No modifications are necessary whatever and you can use the same bolts to put the 'new' box in.

You will enjoy the improved gear ratio of the steering box with that four banger.

I did it in a 3B and it was like power steering --- well, almost.

After you have looked at these boxes enough, you can spot one from a distance.

Until then, you can measure the distance (diagonally) between the centers of any two of the bolts that hold the cover on the side of the box.

The smaller, F-134 box (that you will be replacing) is 4 inches across diagonally.

The larger improved ratio box is around 5 inches or so IIRC.

Now, the fact that it is a larger box affects nothing except for the ease of steering. It will not interfere or get in the way of anything in that area - hence the bolt in installation.

It would be interesting to get your feedback if you try it...

So, the :v6: box does have a better ratio? Just wondering, as my brothers :hurrican: box is worn out, and we've got a spare :v6: box...

Yep the v6 box is like 16:1 ratio and the 4 banger box is like 14.5:1.
If you swap the box and expect it to be a big improvement you will be sorely disappointed.
You would be better off going to manual saginaw.
Even John Deere quit using Ross style steering boxes before 1960.
