Yup, if they are the same pipe thread--I think 1/2" npt. If they are not, you can get a brass reducer at the FLAPS.

If you put your outlet hose where your sender is, try to get a 90* pipe fitting. My sender is a little smaller thread it think--3/8" npt.

    Good luck.

FWIW - My sending unit is in the same place as Alan's. Not sure that's original or not but it seems to me like it was cause the pipe fitting in the front hole looked like it had been there for a while. Of course it'll be a moot point when I switch back to the 4bbl manifold with the sender up front. My temp gauge indicates cooler temps with the sender back there than it did with the sender up fron on the 4bbl.

Bob, good info. I'm not alone!
So do I/we need to worry about our V6s not getting hot enough b/c of the location of the sending unit, or is a lower temp to be expected and assume normal operating temp otherwise?? Was i doing harm to the engine when I had 2/3 of my radiator blocked with cardboard the last 2 winters when I "needed" to see temps up towards 185*-195*?? What's the real difference in "real" temperature between the diffo sending unit locations??

Seemed like about 5-10* difference between the front and rear mounting of the sender if I'm remembering right. Mine probably reads about 185 on the road. Haven't driven much on the road since I put this manifold on though. Off road - in low range climbing and playing it's been running way too hot. But that's another problem/story. (I think) :D

Actually Bob, Alan all the motors built as 70/71 models have the temperature sending unit mounted up front. Mine is the same and I can attest to its originality, as it still had the original temp gauge in it when I bought the Jeep 12 1/2 years ago. To my way of thinking it is the best place to put it as it is the farthest point from the pump and radiator so it should give the best average reading on the motor temp.

Just as a point for temperature readings on these motors, in the Pat Ganal v6 performance book there is a quote from Smoky Yunick on the buick v6's drawbacks and 1 of them was the motors designed over use of water passages and its inabiltiy to build high temps needed for racing, the later oddfires and even fires have far less cooling passages in the block then the original 225's do, you have to remember that these motors were patterned off of an Aluminum motor design, which was unable to take extreme heat due to it warping the block!!

Mike I'm confused. If the 70/71 models had the sending unit mounted up front, then it's right next to the pump & radiator, not furthest away from it. Or did you mean to say "rear" instead of "front"? :?

"Cool", thanks Mike. :) So should I get a 190* t-stat to compensate for the lower temp readings? 180* is on there now. Might be a good idea for the winter, as I'll rarely see over 150* on the gauge.

Alan I run a 180* in mine, during the winter when its cold I have a cover for my grill like the semi's have that allows me to cover part of the grill frame to let less air in. I ran with a piece of plexiglass in front of my radiator for several years in the winter to cover roughly half of it up, that worked great, then you don't have to change thermostats alot and deal with possibly overheating in the summer due to a 195* thermostat you may run in the winter.
